Before you begin

Attention:
  • This procedure is not a stand-alone procedure. Customer disruption and damage to the hardware might occur when microcode and power boundaries are not in the proper conditions for this service action.
  • If a serviceable event FRU repair directed you to this procedure, the microcode and power boundaries are already set.
  • If a serviceable event FRU repair did not direct you to this procedure, see MAP1230 Replace a FRU without using a serviceable event.
Notes:
  • All the cables and FRUs to be removed must be uniquely identified so they can be reinstalled correctly.
  • If an installed earthquake resistance kit prevents you from accessing this FRU, refer to MAP1600 If earthquake resistance kit parts prevent you from servicing a rack.
  • The power, VGA and USB cables are part of the keyboard/display assembly. They cannot be removed from the assembly.
  • The FRU kit includes a cable routing tool to assist with routing the cables through the rack.

Remove the management console keyboard and display drawer

Procedure

  1. At the front left of Rack-1, pull the management console keyboard and display drawer out to the service position and open the keyboard tray.

Model 98x power junction assembly (PJA) locations
Note: The PJA shown in Figure 1 is for models 980, 981, and 982. J6 and J8 are not present on the PJA for models 984, 985, 986, and 988.
  8. Observe the routing of the monitor power cable assembly through the channel at the right rear of the rack.

Install the management console keyboard and display drawer

Procedure

  1. Install the new keyboard and display drawer assembly onto the rails.
  2. Route the monitor power cable assembly from the keyboard and display drawer to the rear of the rack.
    1. Use the provided cable routing tool as needed.
    2. Follow the routing method you observed before disconnecting the cables.
    3. Do not connect the cables to the PJAs now.
  3. At the front of the rack, route the USB and VGA cables from the keyboard and display drawer into the side of the rack and through the patch panel opening.
