MAP2100 PPS-1 (Top) with invalid PPS ID = 1 problem detected

A PPS-1 (Top) with invalid PPS ID = 1 problem was detected. This problem is typically caused by using the wrong sequence to connect PPS-1 (Top) cables during a repair action.

MAP2100 Section-1

Procedure

  1. Before continuing the repair of the upper PPS, ensure the lower PPS is error free. The lower PPS must have:
    • No open serviceable events.
    • The four green LED indicators (AC INPUT GOOD, UEPO LOOP GOOD, 208V PWR GOOD, DDM PWR GOOD) solidly lit.
Is the lower PPS error free?
    • Yes, go to the next step.
    • No, stop and contact your next level of support. You might cause an unexpected rack power outage if you continue.
  2. At the rear of the upper PPS, disconnect J1 and J2 connectors. See Figure 1.
Note: The other end of these "Y" cables stay connected to the lower PPS and the Rack-1 RPC cards.

  3. At the rear of the upper PPS, switch off (down) the CB00 Callout label 1 power input circuit breaker. See Figure 2.

  4. At the rear of the LOWER PPS (PPS2), unplug the J3 cable from the PPS sequence module. See Figure 3.

  5. At the front of the upper PPS, are all the LED indicators and two-character status display off?
    • Yes, go to MAP2100 Section-2.
    • No, at the rear of the upper PPS, disconnect the cable from J6. See Figure 4. If the LEDs or status display are not off, contact your next level of support.

MAP2100 Section-2

Procedure

  1. At the rear of the upper PPS, connect the J1 and J2 cables.
  2. At the rear of the lower PPS, connect the Callout label J3 cable.
  3. If the upper PPS J6 cable was disconnected, reconnect it now.
  4. At the rear of the upper PPS, switch on (up) the CB00 power input circuit breaker.
  5. At the front of the upper PPS, wait a maximum of 3 minutes and then observe the four green LEDs.
Are the four green LEDs solid?

MAP2100 Section-3

Procedure

The upper PPS (location code E1) now needs to go through pseudo repair process to logically reset and update the PPS ID. A pseudo repair means that you use the normal HMC FRU exchange guided repair process, but do not disconnect or power off the FRU when directed.
Do one of the following:
  • If the upper PPS (location code E1) is listed in the serviceable event FRU list, use the normal FRU exchange procedure. When the service Information Center exchange process is displayed, do not disconnect cables and switch off the power input CB00. Instead, return to the HMC screen and complete the FRU exchange process.
  • If the upper PPS (location code E1) is not listed in the serviceable event FRU list, use MAP1230 Replace a FRU without using a serviceable event to replace the FRU. When the service Information Center exchange process is displayed, do not disconnect cables and switch off the power input CB00. Instead, return to the HMC screen and complete the FRU exchange process.
