MAP2512 PPS 5/12V DDM power module cable crimp verification procedure for machine type 2107
The following information is a copy of TIP512 from the DS8000® - 2107 Engineering Web site. Read all the information before taking any action.
MAP2512 Section-1
About this task
Procedure
- Select one of the following:
- You are repairing a machine type 2107 rack, go to step 2.
- You are repairing a machine type 242x rack, this procedure does not apply. Exit this MAP and return to the procedure that sent you here.
- A problem has been found on a small number of 5/12V power cables connected between the 5/12V bus bars and the PPS 5/12V DDM power modules for machine type 2107. Machine type 242x is not affected. Some of the contact/conductor terminations inserted in the 4-position PPS connectors on some cables were not crimped.
- Before ANY service actions are started in the power area,
an inspection will need to be performed to ensure every contact in
every connector position of every power cable has been crimped. This
inspection will need to be performed:
- Prior to any service action where a PPS 5/12V DDM power module will have cables disconnected from it, most PPS repairs require that all PPS cables be disconnected.
- When the storage facility is powered down for relocation.
- The inspection will require a non-conductive flashlight
and the removal of all conductive material; that is, rings and watches.
- Inspect all cables connected to all 5/12V DDM power modules before any service actions are performed. If a cable is found missing a crimp, the cable must be replaced before replacing any other power FRUs. The replacement of these cables must be done with complete power off to the machine. The cables are replaced as an assembly.
- If you are here because the machine posted, or is posting,
one of the SRCs that is in the list below:
- if you find one or more of the cables has pulled out of the connector, the cable must be replaced but NOT the 5/12V DDM power module.
- if you find that one or more of the cables are NOT crimped, but remain connected, the cable and the FRU(s) called out must be replaced.
- if you find no cable crimp problems, the FRU(s) called out
must be replaced.
