MAP4520 Pinned data and/or volume status unknown

"Pinned" data can exist for DASD fast write, high bandwidth sequential fast write, and cache fast write data. Pinned data is caused by failures that prevent data from being destaged to DASD. These are either DASD failures that make the array or volume unavailable or failures that make cache or NVS data unavailable. Pinned data can only be freed or unpinned by a successful retry of the destage operation or a request to discard the pinned data that is received from the host or service interface.

About this task

CAUTION:
Perform this procedure only at the direction of the service terminal or other service guide procedures. Failure to follow this attention can cause customer operations to be disrupted.

MAP4520 Section-1

Procedure

  1. Determine the volumes that are affected.
    1. Display the View Storage Facility State window. See MAP1100 Section-1.
    2. In the list, select Pinned Data on LPARs and then click Details to view the volumes that are affected.
    3. Return here and continue at the next step.
  2. Your next level of support may direct you to do the following steps after they have reviewed all of the information. They may change the order of the repairs. Wait for them to guide you before continuing.
  3. Are there any DASD, device adapter, or Fibre Channel interface card related problems?
Note: A loop with only one DDM failure will not normally cause pinned data if the DDM is part of a RAID array.
    • Yes, repair the DASD, device adapter, or Fibre Channel interface card problems. The repair may allow retryable pinned data to destage.
    • No, continue with the next step.
  4. Are there any CEC, I/O enclosure, or PCIe related problems?
    • Yes, repair the problems. The repair may allow pinned data to destage so the retryable pinned data status is reset. The repair process may require you to discard non-retryable pinned data before the FRUs are replaced.
Note: This will cause customer data loss.
    • No, continue with the next step.
  5. After all related repairs have been completed, display the Pinned Data on LPAR status using View Storage Facility State.
