MAP6090 HMC Role selection not displayed as expected

The HMC Role Selection Menu did not appear as expected when the HMC was booted.

About this task

Attention: This MAP is not to be used for models 98x or later. It is kept for reference only.

At initial installation of earlier models, the HMC role selection screen is displayed until the service representative selects the HMC role.

The HMC Role Selection Menu may not display if the HMC role was previously established. This section provides guidance on how to cause the HMC Role Selection to appear on the next restart of the management console.

MAP6090 Section-1

Procedure

  1. Is the HMC login screen displayed?
  2. Log onto the management console.
  3. Determine the HMC role.
    1. From the navigation area, click HMC Management.
    2. In the right work area, go to the Storage Server HMC Tasks section and click Query/Activate HMC Role Selection.
      The current HMC role is displayed along with the option to change the setting.
  4. Is the old HMC role the same as the new HMC role you will select?
    • Yes, go to step 5.
    • No, go to step 6.
  5. IMPORTANT: To reset all the HMC code objects to prepare for the install, the HMC role must transition from Primary to Secondary or Secondary to Primary at least once. If the role does not transition, the code objects will not be reset.
    • If the HMC role is displayed as Primary (MC 1), then you must change the role to Secondary (MC 2) and then repeat the process one more time to change back to Primary role. Go to step 6 and remember to change the HMC role twice.
    • If the HMC role is displayed as Secondary (MC 2), then you must change the role to Primary (MC 1) and then repeat the process one more time to change back to Secondary role. Go to step 6 and remember to change the HMC role twice.
  6. Click Change HMC Role and then click OK.
  7. Click Yes to force a restart of the HMC. Allow up to 5 minutes for the management console to restart. Does the HMC Role Selection Menu now appear?
    • Yes, return to the procedure that sent you to this MAP.
    • No, continue with the next step.
