Use this MAP to reinstall the licensed internal code (LIC) for the management console.

MAP6100 Section-1

About this task

Procedure

  1. Were you sent here for a boot failure?
    • Yes, the failure might be caused by a corrupt file system. Go to the next step.
    • No, go to step 3.
  2. Contact your next level of support so they can direct you to run the FSCK command and attempt to recover the boot drive.

    Was the recovery attempt successful?

    • Yes, exit this MAP.
    • No, go to the next step.
  3. Is the set of recovery CDs/DVDs for this management console available?
    Notes:
    1. To identify a set of recovery CDs/DVDs, look in the document enclosure at the front of the DS8000® Rack-1 in the upper left corner. A set of recovery CDs/DVDs should be present (there should only be one set). Look at the CD/DVD labels. The information on the labels should be similar to the information that is shown in MAP6100 Section-5 Examples of CD/DVD labels in the Recovery and HMC Update kits)
    2. Starting with LIC bundle 64.2.xxx.xxx, HMC and storage facility critical data is backed up to the managed LPARs rather than to DVD. After checking for and correcting file system issues, the remaining tasks to reload the management console LIC and restore or reconstruct HMC configuration data are covered in MAP6200 Reloading the management console LIC bundle Other necessary MAPs are called from MAP6200.
  4. Is this the first time that you have been sent to this MAP for this problem?
    • Yes, go to step 6.
    • No, go to the next step.
  5. The first time that you used this MAP, was the critical console data backup DVD available and did you use it?
  6. Locate the critical console data backup DVD disk for this HMC. The DVD disk should be found in the ship group during an install or kept in the HMC DVD-RAM drive after install. If the DVD disk cannot be located, go to step 8.
Note: Ensure that the HMC machine type-model-S/N that is on the DVD disk and the HMC server match.
There are two versions of DVD disk:
    • New version (pre-printed label): This DVD disk is labeled with the HMC machine type-model-S/N and HMC Critical Console Data Backup DVD, Keep in HMC DVD-RAM drive. If this version of DVD disk is available, go to step 8.
    • Old version (no pre-printed label): This DVD disk should have the HMC machine type-model-S/N hand-printed on it by the service representative. If this version of DVD disk is available, go to the next step.
  7. Is the HMC machine type-model-S/N hand-printed on the DVD disk?
    • Yes, go to the next step.
    • No, hand print the HMC machine type-model-S/N and "HMC Critical Console Data" on the DVD disk.

Example: HMC machine type model S/N: 8837-PLM 75KKTWT8R, HMC Critical Console Data

  8. Is the HMC critical console data backup DVD available?

MAP6100 Section-2 (Critical console data backup DVD is available)

MAP6100 Section-3 (Critical console data backup DVD is not available)

Procedure

  1. Are there two physical management consoles (MC 1 and MC 2)?
    • Yes, go to the next step.
    • No, go to step 4.
  2. Is MC 2 powered up and available for use by the customer?
Note: Because of an ESSNI code problem, some MC 2s have been powered off. If that is your case, answer No to this question.
    • Yes, go to the next step.
    • No, go to step 4.
  3. What is the bundle level of your recovery CDs?
  4. What is the bundle level of your recovery CDs?

MAP6100 Section-4 (Recovery CD/DVD Kit is missing)

Procedure

Contact your next level of support. Here are some things that they might consider:
  • Determine if a compatible set of Recovery CDs or DVDs from another storage facility in the account is available at the needed level.
  • If the management console LIC code has been updated, it might be possible to order a set of recovery CDs at the level of the update instead of the original level.
  • If the critical console data backup DVD is present in the management console DVD-RAM drive, it will contain all the LIC code updates that were applied after the original level of code that the management console was built with. You will need a set of HMC Recovery CDs at the original level that the management console was built with
  • If the critical console data backup DVD is not in the management console DVD-RAM drive and is not available, additional procedures must be performed in order to recover that information.
