Exchange the Ethernet switch tray fan (Model 951 only)

Attention:
  • This procedure is not a stand-alone procedure. Customer disruption and damage to the hardware might occur when microcode and power boundaries are not in the proper conditions for this service action.
  • If a serviceable event FRU repair directed you to this procedure, the microcode and power boundaries are already set.

Notes:
  • All the cables and FRUs to be removed must be uniquely identified so they can be reinstalled correctly.
  • If an installed earthquake resistance kit prevents you from accessing this FRU, refer to MAP1600.

Remove the Ethernet switch tray fan

Procedure

  1. At the rear of the rack, remove the air baffle Callout label 2 above the Ethernet switch tray, as shown in Figure 1.
    1. Remove the two mounting screws Callout label 1.
    2. Pivot the two mounting tabs Callout label 1 inward so they do not interfere with the cables upon removal.
    3. Carefully remove the air baffle plate to not damage any cables.

  2. Locate the fan to be replaced, as shown in Figure 2. Normally, the fan will not be spinning at full speed.
    Note:
    • SW1 PS supplies power to SW1, Fan1 and Fan3
    • SW2 PS supplies power to SW2, Fan2 and Fan4

  3. Remove the fan, as shown in Figure 3:
    1. Unplug the cable connector to the left of the fan.
    2. Remove the two Torx T8 screws and the top bracket, then remove the fan.

Install the Ethernet switch tray fan

Procedure

  1. Install the new fan.
  2. Install the top bracket and two Torx T8 screws.
  3. Connect the fan cable.
  4. Ensure the fan is spinning at full speed. Although the fan has a built in rotation sensor, that signal is not used.
  5. Install the air control baffle.
  6. Return to the procedure that sent you here.
