FSPSP04

A problem is detected in the service processor firmware or I2C bus.

FSPSP04 Section-1: service processor firmware error

Procedure

  1. Does the serviceable event that sent you here contain SRC B1xx2A33?
    • Yes, exit this procedure and depending on the bundle level, complete the following steps:
      • For bundle levels below 8.0.1, close the serviceable event that sent you here.
        • Click Close in the current service information center window.
        • One or more HMC repair screens might prompt you for the result of using the service procedure in the MAP. Select Problem fixed.
        • Select No when asked whether you exchanged any parts.
        • Select Yes when asked whether you isolated the problem.
      • For bundle levels at 8.0.1 and above, continue with the next item on the serviceable event FRU list.
        • Click Close in the current service information center window.
        • One or more HMC repair screens might prompt you for the result of using the service procedure in the MAP. Select Problem not fixed.
        • Select No when asked whether you exchanged any parts.
        • Select No when asked whether you isolated the problem.
    • No, go to the next step.
  2. Does the serviceable event that sent you here contain one of the following SRCs reference codes?
    • B181850E - Platform firmware (0x81) reported an error
    • B1818A1D - Building block registry read failure
    • B181B00C - Error reading NVRAM entry
    • B181B09C - Error writing NVRAM to VPD
    • B181B09D - Mismatch in VPD versus NVRAM
    • B181B09E - Failed to write System NVRAM values out to VPD
    • B181B09F - Failed to write Enclosure NVRAM values out to VPD
    • B181E40B - Detected NVRAM Recovered Errors
    • B181FD02 - GARD Data did not exist because either it was the first IPL on this machine or NVRAM was cleared
    • B7006950 - Platform LIC detected an error
  3. Are there any open serviceable events with SRCs BE190010 - BE190017?
    • Yes, exit this procedure and repair any open serviceable events first.
    • No, go to the next step.
  4. Is there an open serviceable event with SRC B1811404?
  5. Do one or more of the following exist in the serviceable event that sent you here?
    1. notificationType....=No Call Home or Customer Required - disabled by code update process.
    2. Symbolic FRU FSPSP06 exists in the FRU list (FSPSP06 says that the error is most likely a temporary error).
    3. No location code of the failing service processor is listed.
    4. You were using CDA to update code/firmware on this storage facility.
    • Yes, go to step 6.
    • No, go to step 8.
  6. Does the serviceable event FRU list that sent you to this MAP contain any FRUs, other than the service processor card, that are not replaced yet?
Note: For the purposes of this step, a FRU is an actual part that appears in the serviceable event with a class of FRU. Items with a class of Isolate procedure or Symbolic procedure are not FRUs.
    • Yes, exit this isolation procedure to replace the non-service processor card FRUs one at a time until the problem is resolved. If you cannot replace the FRU by selecting it in the FRU list, refer to MAP1230 Replace a FRU without using a serviceable event.
    • No, there are no non-service processor card FRUs to be replaced, go to the next step.
  7. Are you going through this isolation procedure for the first time?
    • Yes, close this serviceable event and exit this isolation procedure. If there is a problem with the service processor firmware, a new serviceable event is opened.
    • No, go to the next step.
  8. The error is assumed to be in the service processor firmware. There is no DS8000® service representative procedure to reload the same level of firmware on the CEC enclosure service processor. Instead, replace the service processor; go to MAP1215 Replace a FRU.

If the problem is not fixed, go to FSPSP04 Section-2: I2C bus error.

  2. If the problem still exists, does the control panel display a bouncing ball icon after you replace the Op Panel?
    • Yes, go to MAP2220 Section-4.
    • No, go to the next FRU.
      1. The CEC enclosure I/O backplane assembly.
      2. RPC1 card.
