Use these procedures to put the CEC enclosure back to a correct state.

MAP6650 Section-1, Correcting the CEC enclosure operating state

Procedure

  1. If both CEC enclosures are displaying an unexpected CEC state, do not continue. Contact your next level of support. This MAP requires the partner CEC to be operational.
  2. Use Table 1 to select the unexpected CEC state:

MAP6650 Section-2, No Connection state

About this task

In the No Connection state, the management console is not connected, or the interaction with the CEC enclosure failed. Perform the following steps:

Procedure

  1. Go to MAP7000 Entry point For storage facility private network problems. Return here when you have completed all the steps.
  2. Is the problem now resolved?
    • Yes, all actions in this MAP are now complete.
    • No, continue with the next step.
  3. Go to MAP6600 Resetting the managed system connection from the management console. Return here when you have completed all the steps.
  4. Is the problem now resolved?
    • Yes, all actions in this MAP are now complete.
    • No, contact your next level of support.
    Note: The next level of support will first search for any known problems or fixes. They may then ask you to deactivate and power down the failing CEC enclosure and perform a service processor pinhole reset.

MAP6650 Section-3, Incomplete state

About this task

In the Incomplete state, the management console failed to get all of the necessary information from the CEC enclosure. Perform the following steps:

Procedure

  1. Go to MAP6620 Rebuilding managed system information. Return here when you have completed all the steps.
  2. Is the problem now resolved?
    • Yes, all actions in this MAP are now complete.
    • No, continue with the next step.
  3. Ensure that the customer is not currently accessing the CEC enclosure to perform logical configuration of copy service functions before you continue with the next step.
  4. Reboot the management console. Choose from the following options:
    • If the state goes to Recovery, go to MAP6650 Section-4, Recovery state.
    • If the state remains Incomplete, perform the following steps:
      1. If there are two management consoles installed on this complex, ensure that no one is entering commands from the other management console.
      2. Repeat step 1. If it still fails, continue with the next step.
  5. Verify that the management console and service processor are properly communicating through the private network. Go to MAP7000 Entry point For storage facility private network problems. Return here and continue if the problem is not resolved.
  6. Reset the service processor. Go to MAP4810 Resetting the service processor (FSP). Return here and continue with the next step.
  7. Allow up to ten (10) minutes for the service processor to initiate program load (IPL) and for communication to be established with the management console.
  8. Go to MAP6650 Section-4, Recovery state. Return here and continue if the problem is not resolved.
  9. Restore the profile data. Go to MAP6630 Recovering partition data on a CEC enclosure. Return here and continue if the problem is not resolved.
  10. If the problem persists, contact your next level of support.

MAP6650 Section-4, Recovery state

About this task

In the Recovery state, the save area in the service processor is not synchronized with the management console database. Perform the following steps:

Procedure

  1. Restore the profile data. Go to MAP6630 Recovering partition data on a CEC enclosure. Return here and continue if the problem is not resolved.
  2. After you restore the profile data, choose the option that describes what happened.
  3. Allow up to 10 minutes for the FSP to IPL and for communication to be established with the management console.
  4. Go to MAP6650 Section-5, Error state.

MAP6650 Section-5, Error state

Procedure

  1. Do a pseudo FRU replace of the service processor. Do not physically disconnect any cables or physically remove the service processor when directed. You are using the Exchange FRU procedure to ensure all the service processor settings are correct, the FRU verification tests run error free, and then to return the CEC enclosure to customer use.
    1. From the navigation area, click Storage Facility Management > storage facility.
    2. From the bottom Task area, click Exchange Parts. Select the exchange option that contains the FRU to be exchanged. A window opens and displays the enclosures.
    3. Click Show FRUs. A window opens and lists the CEC enclosure FRUs. Select the Service Processor Card and then click Exchange FRU.
  2. Is the problem now resolved?
    • Yes, all actions in this MAP are now completed.
