Before you begin

Attention:
  • This procedure is not a stand-alone procedure. Customer disruption and damage to the hardware might occur when microcode and power boundaries are not in the proper conditions for this service action.
  • If a serviceable event FRU repair directed you to this procedure, the microcode and power boundaries are already set.
  • If a serviceable event FRU repair did not direct you to this procedure, see MAP1230 Replace a FRU without using a serviceable event.
Notes:
  • All the cables and FRUs to be removed must be uniquely identified so they can be reinstalled correctly.
  • If an installed earthquake resistance kit prevents you from accessing this FRU, refer to MAP1600.

Remove the CEC disk drive backplane assembly

Procedure

  1. Verify that the CEC enclosure is in the "power off" state before you continue. (The CEC enclosure should already be in the power off state.)
Note: If this FRU has a FRU identify indicator LED, it is no longer lit.

If you have not already located the FRU to be replaced, use the location code listed in the serviceable event FRU list. See MAP1245 Finding FRUs by using location codes.

  2. At the rear of the storage facility, view both CEC enclosure power supplies.

Are both DC GOOD LEDs flashing?

  3. Remove all power from the CEC enclosure.
    • At the rear of the CEC enclosure, disconnect the power input cables Callout label A to both CEC enclosure power supplies.
    • At the CEC enclosure control panel, observe the green Power® Present icon, beneath the white Power button.
      • If it is slow flashing, the CEC enclosure is still in the power-off state. DO NOT CONTINUE. Ensure that you have unplugged the power cables.
      • If it is off, go to the next step.

  7. Remove all CEC disk drives. See Figure 6.
    1. Label each disk drive for the slot that it is in.
Note: Each disk drive MUST BE returned to its original slot for the LPAR to boot properly.
    2. Squeeze the bottom of the CEC disk drive handle Callout label A to unlock it.
    3. Pull the CEC disk drive handle Callout label B out and then up.
    4. Grasp the CEC disk drive Callout label C, supporting the bottom, and slide it out of the disk enclosure.

  8. Remove the disk drive backplane assembly. See Figure 7.
    1. Press down and pull out to open the handles Callout label A on the lower edge of the disk drive backplane assembly.
    2. Pull the disk drive backplane assembly Callout label B toward you to remove it from the system unit.

Install the CEC disk drive backplane assembly

Procedure

  1. At the front of the CEC enclosure, install the disk drive backplane assembly.
    1. Carefully slide the disk drive backplane assembly into the CEC enclosure until you feel it lock into place.
    2. Close the handles to secure it into the proper position.
  2. Replace CEC disk drives. See Figure 8.
    1. Refer to the label for each disk drive. Each disk drive MUST BE returned to its original slot for the LPAR to boot properly.
Note: Each disk drive MUST BE returned to its original slot for the LPAR to boot properly.
    2. With the CEC disk drive handle in the up position Callout label A, carefully slide the CEC disk drive into the enclosure until it stops.
    3. Move the CEC disk drive handle down into the locked position Callout label B to seat the CEC disk drive fully in. Verify that the front of the new CEC disk drive is aligned with the other CEC disk drives.

  3. Push both CEC enclosure fans all the way into the fan slots then lift the attached rings up to lock the fans into place.
  4. Pivot the CEC enclosure fan orange pull rings up out of the way and gently slide the media tray into place. Then push the two orange locking knobs into the locked position.
  5. Gently slide the control panel into place, and ensure the locking tabs on both sides of the control panel lock into place.
  6. At the rear of the CEC enclosure, connect the power input cables to both CEC enclosure power supplies.
  7. Ensure that the CEC enclosure is in the power-off state before you continue. At the CEC enclosure control panel, wait for the green Power Present icon, beneath the white Power button to slow blink, and then continue the repair.
  8. Exit this service information center parts exchange procedure and return to the procedure that sent you here.
